Dr Andrew Neal is a neurologist and epilepsy specialist. He is Deputy Director of Epilepsy at Alfred Hospital, one of Australia’s leading epilepsy units. He also works in the Comprehensive Epilepsy Programs at Royal Melbourne Hospital and St Vincent’s Hospital.

Andrew completed his undergraduate medical training at the University of Melbourne and undertook neurology and epilepsy training at Royal Melbourne and St Vincent’s Hospitals. Andrew subsequently completed a 12 month epilepsy fellowship in France where gained expertise in intracranial EEG (stereo-EEG) and epilepsy surgery. Andrew now leads the Stereo-EEG program at Alfred Hospital. He is also involved in local and national epilepsy teaching programs for neurologists and junior doctors.

Andrew is actively involved in epilepsy research. He completed a PhD in 2018 examining tumour associated epilepsy at Melbourne University. He is a research fellow at Monash University’s Department of Neuroscience. Andrew has published research papers in leading neurology journals and has presented at international and national conferences. He currently supervises PhD and honours students undertaking epilepsy projects.

Andrew cares for a wide range of adult patients with seizures, from those who have had a single episode (that may or may not be a seizure) to those with complex epilepsy. He has a subspecialty interest in managing patients with drug resistant epilepsy being considered for epilepsy surgery and those with brain tumour associated epilepsy.
